This week we chatted to interior design correspondent Gwendoline Alderton about the latest trends in interior design. Trends are important in interior design because they dictate what products you fill find on the high street, and will make you feel more energetic and inspired inside your home.
One trending colour at the moment is 'inky blue', and it's gained popularity as a mysterious paint colour. However, inky blue can sometimes feel a bit intense and gloomy, so Gwendoline suggests an inky blue feature wall and 3 walls of other colours, or lighter coloured furnishings to lighten the atmosphere of the room. Alternatively, you could also use an acidic colour like fuschia or zesty green which will pop out amongst the dark blue. This will also help to give the room energy and life.
The 'industrial' look has also been gaining popularity recently. This look incorporates harsh and worn elements, for a 'used' look. One phrase associated with this look is 'shabby-chic'. This look is usually used in kitchens, or with wall lights in offices. Interesting lights are also a good way to spice up your interiors. Glass lights which diffract the light and throw light into the room are very popular, and are a way of making the room you are decorating feel more exciting. Spider lights are also a trendy look
