Today on Chris' film club we start off the week of Fifties films with the award-winning 'On The Waterfront'.
The film was released in 1954, and tells the story of how former boxer Terry Malloy (played by the amazing Marlon Brando) crosses a corrupt dock workers union, slowly getting more and more mixed up in their criminal activities.
Starring along side Brando are Rod Steiger, Karl Malden, Lee J. Cobb and Eva Marie Saint. The director was Elia Kazan.
Overall the film was nominated for 12 Oscars and won 3, including best picture, director, actor and supporting actress, and in 1989 it was selected to be preserved in the U.S. National Film Registry.
