The Radio Verulam Film Guide: 27th March 2015

The Simon Carver/Mayor Matthew Broderick 'crazy-a-thon' that has been gearing up for a few weeks now has stepped up a notch this week. Simon had already been feeling threatened by Mayor Broderick and his borderline dangerous behaviour, as he thinks there is only space for one mentally unhinged person on Drive Time, and that's him. When Mayor Broderick brought a dead bird into the studio and laid it at Honor's feet like a cat, Simon had had enough. Simon prides himself on two things: 1) his mental instability and 2) that he invented the cello, and so this move insulted him deeply.

Firstly, he confronted Mayor Broderick outside in the car park, wearing only a blue pair of Speedos and a small cowboy hat. (For future reference, this is Simon's go-to outfit for both showdowns and dates). He was going to throw down, but Mayor Broderick was prepared, as he was wearing nothing but crude oil and a fruit pastille on each nipple. Simon, slightly take aback, opened with his world famous impression of Errol Flynn performing a foxtrot, but Mayor Broderick countered by setting his own feet on fire and walking on his hands in time to The Power of Love by Jennifer Rush.

Simon, shocked by Mayor Broderick's commitment to insanity, retreated back to the studio to cower behind Danny and reassess his enemy. The battle lines have certainly been drawn now, so expect developments soon.

Ok, that was a lie, but Simon was in the studio to talk about the UK box office, new releases in the cinema and his pick of films on TV for the coming week.
