Consumer Advice

Elizabeth Crampton from the Citizens Advice Bureau was our guest tonight on Drivetime covering the following issues.

Will Aid

Will Aid is a partnership between the legal profession and certain charities. Every November, participating solicitors waive their fee for writing a basic will. Instead, they invite you to make a donation to the Will Aid charities. Suggested minimum donations are £95 for a single basic will or £150 for a pair of basic mirror wills.

More information about Will Aid is available on its website at www.willaid.org.uk. The website contains a useful will planner to help prepare for the meeting with the solicitor and a tool to enable you to search by postcode for a solicitor who’s taking part. You can make an appointment now.

More support for separating couples and parents

A new support package for separating couples and parents has been announced by the Ministry of Justice to help people who need to go to court but are not represented by a solicitor.

Support will include:
improved online information on the 'Sorting out Separation' and www.gov.uk websites
increased legal and practical support in the civil and family courts
in certain pilot areas in England, from 1 November, a free helpline for separating parents
from 3 November, a free mediation session for parties if one of you is receiving legal aid.

Further details on these issues plus much more is available at the web site http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/news.htm
