Danny recently spoke to Julie Mayhew about the Berko writers workshop that she is running. She has been running it since January and it is a 6 week creative writing course that has already been held twice. Julie plans to run a new 5 week course over the summer where the attendees can pick and choose which weeks they attend depending on their calendars. They have courses for short stories, novels, screen plays and radio writing.
Julie began her career as an actress but soon got fed up with terrible scripts, so she began to write her own. Her new novel Red Ink has been shortlisted for the 2014 Branford Boase award and the novel has also been nominated for the Cilip Carnegie MEDA.
Julie has recently found success with her radio drama scripts. She performed in her most recent one on BBC radio 4. The drama was about an elderly couple being evicted from their council home.
