The theme for The Film Club this week is 'black and white' movies, so we start the week with the 2011 silent film (and Oscar fave) The Artist. The winner of 5 Oscars (including for lead actor Jean Dujardin), the film is about two actors with different career trajectories. George is a star whose light is fading, while his protegee (and love interest) Peppy is getting more and more work.
The film is directed by Michel Hazanavicius and is a loving homage to the silent film era. It also stars Berenice Bejo, John Goodman and James Cromwell.
