The Radio Verulam Film Guide: 9th May 2014

Today's show saw the return of Danny Smith to the host's chair, replacing the Gareth Malone-dredged-from-a-river look-a-like Johnny Seabrook. Our resident film expert Simon Carver was also in the studio and he seemed to have cheered up considerably from last week. You see, Radio Verulam were holding an event at the University of Herts last Friday which was a talk by esteemed film critic Mark Kermode. Simon took this quite personally as he: 1) is rather territorial (hence why he keeps weeing on everything in the studio) and 2) has had a running feud with Kermode since their time in the Women's Land Army in the 1940s. Both were in the same group based on a farm in Somerset in the Summer of 1941 when Simon fell in love with young GI with eyes like the sea after a storm. Kermode, however, managed to lure the GI away with his glorious quiff and knowledge of skiffle music. They've not spoken since.

Ok, that was a lie, but Simon and Danny were in the studio talking about the UK box office and Simon's picks of films on free-to-air TV for the coming.
