Martin Finney comes in to talk Autumn planting and the harvest.

Yesterday our guest  was Martin Finney- our gardening correspondent from Ayletts Nurseries who came in to discuss what can still be planted, and the Autumn harvest.

First for the planting left to be done:
Martin recommends planting any bulbs at this time of year: crocuses, daffodils and tulips can be saved until even later!

There's still time to get your garlic in, and even Japanese onions. Now is also a good time to plant broad beans.
Another tip Martin had for the winter: in order to keep your lawn green during the colder months, do not bother trying to sew grass seed but instead re-turf, making sure the turf is as fresh as possible in order to really lift the colour of your garden.

This year there has been a real boom for apples due to the wet winter, cold March and gloriously hot summer months. Get down to Aylett's on the 19th of October for their apple weekend, Radio Verulam will be there too from 1:00pm to 5:00pm!

I you have any gardening queries the staff at Aylett's are happy to help, no question is a stupid question!
You can find more information on their website

Martin will be back with us on the first Thursday of November with more gardening advice!
