Herts Wildlife Trust Feature with Sarah Buckingham

Our Guest on the show today was Sarah Buckingham and she was telling us about a number of environmental topics locally and nationally. Firstly she was telling us how there is going to be a judicial review on the European Commissions decision to make the fast railway track from London to Birmingham. She stated that the Herts Wild Life Trust has no problem with new and effcient transport but are concerned that those who made the decisions did not consider the long term affects it would have on the environment. If you are concerned you can actually contact your local MP and voice your opinion on the matter. If you are unsure who your local MP's are you can find out on

Other topics of todays show was Hertfordshires local supply of water. Even though we've had a exceedingly damp start to the summer, you will be suprised to know that water restrictions still apply and hose pipe ban will continue over the summer. The reason for this is that the Hertfordshire area relies a lot on ground water. The water however first has to pass through large amounts of chalk underground which can take years to build up.

It's not all droughts and politics however. Sarah was also telling us about the National Garden Scheme  that's going on up and down the country. For more information go to:

Other events include the Our Garden Wildlife event which takes place on the 14th July in Verulamium Park in St Albans at noon. Here you can find out more about what you can do to preserve wildlife in your own garden! You can also take part in a competition to win a pair of binoculars worth around £240! All you have to do is submit 6 photos (This years theme is landscapes.) The runners up will also have their photos featured in the latest Herts Wildlife Trust Calender!
