Jenny Swatton from St Albans community services was our guest this evening telling us all about events in and around St Albans this month this including;
The Gang Show is a traditional cabaret production, featuring singing, dancing and comedy sketches by a stellar team of performers aged between 11 and 25.
This year's show opens at the Alban Arena on Wednesday, February 16 and runs through to Saturday, February 19.
Thursday February 16th 7.30pm at Harpenden Public Halls
A vibrant personal selection of Noel Coward’s well-known (and many of his lesser-known) songs and verse which will give you laughs a-plenty and possibly prompt a few tears as well.
McGowan and Page (one of the country’s most versatile sopranos) take their much-lauded show on tour at last after a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival in 2009 and two runs at The Riverside Studios in Hammersmith which thrilled Coward aficionados and Coward virgins alike !
Many of the dramatised verses (including the staggering Not Yet The Dodo) are being performed for the first time and the songs (from Never Again to If Love Were All) have been freshened up by Warren Wills’ wonderful new arrangements.
St Albans pancake race
Get your frying pans ready for not just one, but two pancake races that will be held in St Peter’s Street, St Albans on Shrove Tuesday.
A traditional running race and the Flippin' Walkers race, sponsored by McDougalls and organised by St Albans City and District Council, will take place outside the Town Hall on 21 February, from 12 noon.
The St Albans Pancake Race is a running race where each team member has to run very fast, stop suddenly, flip a pancake and set off again at a sprint.
The St Albans Flippin’ Walkers’ Race is a walking race where you must toss a pancake continuously. It is all about good hand, eye and foot co-ordination.
Teams of four can chose to enter either race. Fancy dress or corporate branding is welcome, so get some publicity for your organisation, or just come along with friends for some fun.
Councillor Beric Read, Portfolio Holder for Community Engagement and Localism, said: “This event has been a great success over the years, so get your four- person teams together for a chance to win one of our stunning and fabulous frying pans awards.”
If you want to take part in one of the two pancake races, simply register your team and team name with us by 4.30pm on Monday, 20 February. To enter, simply complete and return an entry form to us. These are available from the Tourist and Information Centre, Market Place, St Albans or on the Council’s website at: www.stalbans.gov.uk/tourism.
