Elizabeth Crampton from the Citizens Advice Bureau

Today saw the return of Elizabeth Crampton of the CAB to the studio. She joins us on a monthly basis and today chose to speak on the subjects of Payment Protection Insurance (PPI), cyber bullying and so-called 'boiler room' scams.

Elizabeth gave some advice to those who have been mis-sold PPI when taking out loans etc. Often when people attempt to get money back through various claims management companies with their PPI they don't get anywhere near as much as they were expecting, with the companies themselves taking a large percentage of the money. Elizabeth suggests that anyone having any problems with PPIs visit www.which.co.uk

Elizabeth also broached the serious topic of cyber bullying and what you should do if you are the victim, or know someone who is the victim, of cyber bullying. Elizabeth said that anyone suffering from bullying of any kind should always talk to someone. There are also some helpful hints for victims. If you are being bullied via your phone then you can contact the phone company; if it is on an online message board the moderator can deal with it and if it is happening at work then your HR department should deal with it promptly.

Elizabeth spoke to us about the serious issue of 'boiler room scams' which are scams in which small groups of people target would-be investors and use high pressure tactics to get them to invest in companies that don't exist. People are regularly conned out of around £20,000 and if you have been targeted then you can give Action Fraud a call on 0300123204. Remember, if it sounds too good, then it probably is.
