Monthly Wildlife Feature with Sarah Buckingham from The Herts and Middx Wildlife Trust

Today on WHD we welcomed Sarah Buckingham from The Herts and Middx Wildlife Trust to give us an update on various wildlife issues.

Sarah told Danny that the Government has just launched a new planning framework that could mean that wildlife sites are less protected. This new move by the Government has not been widely publicised and there is a fear that developers could build where they like and almost have free rein. The Herts and Middx Wildlife Trust will be lobbying the Government as Hertfordshire has 2000 wildlife sites that could be affected.

News on the HS2 which is the proposed high speed rail link between London and Birmingham. Public consultation has now been closed but The Herts and Middx Wildlife Trust are still campaigning. Sarah says they are not against it per se - but they want a strategic review to take in account the impact of wildlife as a whole. You can still write to your MP about this - see www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk to see information.

And did you know that the largest insect in England is the Great Green Bush Cricket! You can see these critters and many more with events that can be found on www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk
