April's Wildlife Feature with Sarah Buckingham

On Monday 4th April we were joined in the studio by Sarah Buckingham of the Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust. Sarah told us about the following things to look out for as spring approaches:

  • Bumble Bees particularly Queen bees are becoming active now as they search for suitable sites to build nests, there are 24 species of bumble bee 6 of which are common in gardens. And did you know the bumble bee is the only pollenator of potato plants?

  • Migrant birds are now returning from the continent so watch out for Chiff Chaffs, Swallows, House Martins, Cuckoss and Swifts.
