Business Feature with Roma Bhowmick

Today we were joined in the studio by Roma Bhowmick from Business Links, the government's online resource for upcoming businesses. Their IT specialist advisers can give you all the free support and information you need to help you grow your business.

Business Links is also providing start-up workshops in many locations across the whole of the East of England, from now until November 2011 only, helping businesses to turn their ideas into a reality. The majority of workshops are free, but some cost £30 (inc. vat) and include a networking lunch. Last year 87% of the 6,000 businesses in the East of England who sought help from Business Links would recomment it to others.

Interior Designer - Gwendoline Alderton

This week on West Herts Drivetime, Gwendoline spoke to Danny all about the latest trends - including what people are buying, regarding the Royal Wedding!

Gwendoline mentioned that florals are in fashion at the moment. There are many items you can buy for your home with floral patterns on, including wallpaper and cushions. Floral patterns can really brighten up your home, gives your house a lovely look, and can even bring back fond memories! It is important to use floral designs in the right way, looking at the scale of the room and what impression you are trying to create within the room.

Finally, Gwendoline talked about colour blocking - which is putting two or three colours together with very crisp, sharp edges. You can purchase striped wallpaper, and if you want to make the room appear taller run the wallpaper virtically. And likewise, if you want to make the room appear wider; run the wallpaper horizontally. The stripes can also be done with paint, you may need a steady hand though!

West Herts branch of Parkinsons UK

Today we chatted to Mike Peaker, the chairman of the West Herts branch of Parkisons UK. Someone is diagnosed with Parkinsons every hour, yet most people know very little about it. It is Parkisons awareness week next week, so today was a great opportunity for him to tell us a little about the charity!

The theme this year is 'Join Us', so it's all about getting people involved; whether you need friendship and support or you just want to help fundraise, there is a place for you! There is a lot going on locally and nationally including monthly meetings and activities. The support group also has a programme of events - in St Albans and the surrounding area this group is run by Janet Roberts.

No experience is needed to help out - you can simply put a collecting tin in your local pub, or throw together a coffee morning! For more information go to www.parkinsons.org.uk
