Monthly Feature with Michelle Hart from St Albans Centre for Voluntary Services

Today Michelle pointed out that volunteers are needed both before and during the festive season.

Opportunities exist at Christmas shelters that provide warmth and food to those that need it. You'll need to be 18 years or over to volunteer and a CRB check will also be needed.

Also, Highfield Park Trust is looking for people to help out at the Christmas Market. You need to 16 years or over for these opportunities.

Grove House Hospice are also looking for volunteers. You can get involved in lots of different ways including helping out at the Harpenden Christmas Carnival, the 5K Jingle Bell Jog and the Reindeer Run. And can you bake cakes! Grove House have a huge freezer and are always happy to receive donations of cakes that they can sell at the various events they run year round.

Next, Michelle talked about residential Volunteering. Would you like to volunteer on a placement lasting between 4 and 12 months, get some great experience and meet new people? If yes, well opportunities to do this exist! An organisation called CSV can provide these opoortunities. It's even possible to volunter abroad. In return, you'll get free accomodation, food and some expenses. No qualifications are needed but you do need to be a UK or EU resident. Check out http://www.csv.org.uk/ for more information.

For further details of any of these opportunities, please contact the CVS on 01727 852657 or call in to the CVS office at 31 Catherine Street, St Albans.
