The University of the Third Age (U3A)

Today we were joined by Margaret Wainwright of the St Albans University of the Third Age.

U3As are self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operatives for people no longer in full time work, providing opportunities for their members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but for fun.

Margaret explained that the organisation has no buildings, no permanent teachers, no qualifications, no tests and no homework! There are many local groups including languages, music, bus pass explorers, walking, creative writing and many, many more.

The St Albans group currently has about 570 members and the Chiswell Green group over 300 members.
