This evening we heard from Chris Pudsey from the St Albans Community Forest Association. The organisation stemmed from the Watling Chase Community Forest project back in 1992 and is made up of around 100 members and conservation volunteers. These members help to preserve the Green Belt in Hertfordshire, which is comprised of public open spaces, including the Watling Chase Timberland Trail (pictured above).
The Community Forest members do this largely by monitoring council policies - for example, every week the council publishes a list of applications made, and the Community Forest Association keeps an eye on this, in order to raise objections when the Green Belt is threatened.
